New Royal Papworth Hospital

The £165m New Royal Papworth Hospital Project consists of the design, construction, financing, provision of FM Services and Lifecycle throughout the 30 year operational term of a new specialist cardio thoracic hospital on a 7 acre site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, next to the Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. It is a specialist heart and lung hospital that is over 43,000m2 that includes:

  • 300 Beds
  • 6 Theatres
  • 6 Catheterisation Labs

Construction of the new hospital commenced in April 2015 and was fully handed over in January 2019.

The Trust had a post completion handover and commissioning period to equip the building and migrate services across from the old site in Papworth Everard, over 10 miles away. The first patient was treated on 1st May 2019, with the hospital being officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 9th July 2019.

EMS has provided the project management and operational general management to Project Co, via the Management Services Agreement from commencement of the project.
